St Mary's Catholic School is situated in the town of Wellington, which is located in the Central West of New South Wales. Wellington has a long history of Catholic Education with its first Catholic School opened in 1862 by a lay teacher. In 1883 the Sisters of Mercy began working in the school and had a presence until 1999.
Wellington is the second oldest town west of the Blue Mountains. It is located 354 kilometres north west of Sydney at the junction of the Macquarie and Bell Rivers. Wellington is a relatively small regional community with a surrounding population of 7300. Wellington is in close proximity to both Orange and Dubbo, which are large regional centres with most major services.
St Mary’s Catholic School offers an inclusive Catholic education for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. St Mary’s is administered by Catholic Education, Diocese of Bathurst. The Parish Priest is the designated manager of the school, with the Principal being responsible for the operation of the school.
